Five of the younger IHM Football Academy at Ellesmere College players had the opportunity to trial for the county side this weekend. This provided a wonderful chance to represent the county at the end of the season, in the world famous Gothia Cup.

Daniel Saez-Bentley, Raymond Leese, Eban Fox-Kirkham, Daniel Thelwell and Will Goodwin were all selected by the coaching team at IHM Football Academy at Ellesmere College to attend the afternoon trials at the outstanding facilities of the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Newport, Shropshire.

This represented a fantastic opportunity for the young players. Should any of the boys be selected, they then have the trip of a lifetime on offer, representing the county in the Gothia Cup 2024 and showcasing their talent on a European stage to clubs, academies and scouts from across the world at this top-class tournament.

The successful players will enjoy a trip to the tournament, with top quality coaching, workshops and high level Matchplay all included. The team will attend the opening ceremony of the event in the Ullevi stadium, where there will be a crowd of over 52,000 in attendance. The whole event will be screened to thousands of viewers from around the world.

The boys should find out this week if they have been successful in their trial and we wish them the best of luck.

Lead Coach, Brandon, said:

“This is such a great opportunity for the players and they are all capable of being successful in the trials. There will have been a number of players at the trials at the weekend, so it won’t be easy for them to progress through. But, the day itself would be a great experience whatever the outcome. It’s a situation and an environment none of these lads have been in before. So, to experience a trials’ situation will be a valuable afternoon which they can take from for future opportunities like this.

Good luck to the lads, it would be great seeing one or two of the Ellesmere side representing the county at that level”

This isn’t the first time players from the IHM Football Academy at Ellesmere College have been invited to the trials for the county. A number of players throughout the past few seasons have also been successful in representing the academy at county level. The latest being current senior player, Alex Sharpe, who was selected for the county side in 2021.
