The goal scoring continued for IHM Football Academy at Ellesmere College this week, hitting a magnificent 7 at home to Shrewsbury College in the league!

In what was very wet and horrible weather conditions in the Shropshire countryside on Wednesday, the IHM at Ellesmere side welcomed Shrewsbury College for the U19s league game. Going into the game with bags of confidence following last week’s 10 goal frenzy, the home side started well with great passing and patient build ups.

In the poor conditions, the home side kept possession well, looking threatening down the right-hand side of the pitch, each time they came forward. The outcome of the game never looked to be in any doubt with the visitors struggling fitness-wise to keep up with the possession of the home side.

Four goals from Jakob, a brace from Antonio and one from Phillip Preusse added another 7 to the Ellesmere tally for the season and gives an outstanding goal difference in the league. Target man Jakob, in his first start as a striker, was a handful for the Shrewsbury back four, being physical, running in behind the defenders and looking like a true athlete.

Short term student Antonio, only being with the side for the first term, was the stand out player of the game. His ability really shone through and being one of the youngest players on the field, in Year 10, with others 2 or 3 years older, it’s a real credit to his ability and natural talent that he can perform so well and be the home side’s player of the match.

Lead Coach Brandon said:

“Another great game and performance. In those conditions it was great to see the lads being patient in their build up and being able to keep so much possession. It was great to see the work from the training ground paying off.

re great goals to add to the tally, we just need to keep our concentration for the full 90 minutes to try to get that first clean sheet of the season. But all in all, I can’t fault the lads for their performance, effort and great teamwork today.”

The IHM at Ellesmere side will now have a couple of weeks without a game, with next week’s game having been cancelled and us then running into half term. But, now we can enjoy plenty of time to get back to the training pitch and work on mantaining this great start.”
