IHM Football Academy – 2
Stockport – 2

Date: Friday 10th November 2023
Competition: Inter College league
Goal scorers: Amir, Derek

The IHM Football Academy came from behind to share the points in the Friday afternoon fixture with Stockport.

Playing a strong Stockport side, with a mix of their first and second team players, the IHM Football Academy team took some time to wake up in the game and claim a point. As the game started the IHM side were just not at the races, with some sloppy play and being second to the ball. This soon resulted in the team going behind with Stockport doubling their lead soon after.

Just on the stroke of half time, Amir came forward and put a cheeky chip over the Stockport number 1 to take the game in at the break with IHM trailing 2-1.

The second half of the game was a different story, with IHM Football Academy making 2 changes which injected a bit of life into the side’s performance and saw them finding the good form they had previously enjoyed. With 70 minutes on the clock, Derek struck a world class strike that rattled the bar and then nestled into the back of the goal to level the game.

The game finished level, taking the IH Manchester side to mid table in the league.

Head of Football, Sam, said:

“Looking at the game as a whole and the team’s performance, a draw was probably a fair result. We are a little frustrated as we know we could have performed a lot better in that first half. We just didn’t start well at all, it looked like some of the lads were still on the bus.

Great to see that the change at half time made a big difference as did that fantastic strike from Derek. We will take a look at that first half in the week and look at where we can improve. We just need to try to eliminate those types of sloppy errors that led to the goals. Then we can really kick on.”

The stand out player of the game was Derek, not only with his goal, which is a contender for “Goal of the Season”, but his hard work and calm play on the ball.

The IHM Football Academy side are up again on Friday, in the Inter College League.
