IHM Football Academy – 0
Global Football Academy – 1
Date: Friday 17 November 2023
Venue: Ten Acres Lane
Competition: Inter College League
Man of the match: Derick & Lucci

This week IHM Football Academy did extremely well, against an extremely strong “on-form” Global Football Academy side, to concede just one goal. GFA have had a recent run of form that has seen them come out 9-0 winners.

During the first half of the game, putting into practice the “switching play” drills from the training ground this week, IHM held onto the ball very strongly. This tactic forced the opposition to create space amongst their back four allowing IHM to get behind the defensive line.

Unfortunately, IHM did not have their usual full backs on the team sheet, meaning that overlapping play could not happen effectively. This meant the team had to fall back onto possession based play. This worked well with Amir forcing the opposition keeper into some brave saves as a result.

The second half of the match started just as well as the first. However, the two teams were well matched with each one getting about the same amount of shots on target, with no one breaking through to goal. The game could very well have ended in a draw, which would have been a fair score line. However, sadly the IHM team conceded a goal around the 80th minute. However, IHM did not let their heads drop:

“Even following the goal, the attitude was phenomenal from all the boys. Even though we didn’t come away with the three points, the lads implemented everything that we had covered in training. So, there were a lot of positives. The boys left the pitch with their heads held high”

Enthused Head Coach, Sam.

Following a hard fought midfield battle, it was thought that the IHM team deserved a draw.
However, unfortunately on this occasion that was not to be.

Stand out performances, as nominated by Sam, were Derick and Lucci, who was playing right wing.
