It was great to bump into Adam Connor of UKEC, United Kingdom Education Centre. With the UKEC head office is just around the corner from the IHM Football Academy Adam and his colleagues frequently call in to present their services and begin to help our students find the best pathway into higher education. UKEC are an education advisory service that was established in 1999. The service provided by the company is completely free of charge and offers help and counselling to international students who wish to live and study in the UK.It is a fully comprehensive service that covers everything from choosing the most appropriate course of study, finding the best university to getting a formal conditional offer and applying for a UK student visa.
Adam remarked how much he liked to come to IHM because he found it a very positive environment to be in:
“The staff here show a great deal of passion for helping the students” he enthused. “Everyone genuinely wants to do their best to help the students at IHM to get the most from their stay in Manchester.”
One person who certainly benefited from the services of UKEC was Kelvin who is studying and training with IHM right now. Kelvin has successfully completed his BTEC Level 3 Sub Diploma in Sport Performance at IHM as a result of a previous course. So, when he decided to come back to the academy and complete the higher level Diploma qualification he was looking for a longer term goal to help motivate him. Kelvin worked with UKEC and as a result decided that he would really like to study Sport Science at the University of Central Lancashire. His reasons? He had been volunteering at a local international school in his home city of Nairobi and came to realise just how much he enjoyed coaching young players. The 3 year degree course at UCLAN was just what he wanted and so with the help of UKEC, he managed to gain a conditional offer. Kelvin is now working hard to get the grades he needs to progress onto the university foundation programme at UCLAN. We wish him well.
